ਗੰਗਾ ਜਮੁਨਾ ਕੇਲ ਕੇਦਾਰਾ ॥
gangā jamunā kēl kēdārā .
The Ganges, the Jamunaa where Krishna played, Kaydar Naat'h,
ਕਾਸੀ ਕਾਂਤੀ ਪੁਰੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ॥
kāsī kānhtī purī duārā .
Benares, Kanchivaram, Puri, Dwaarkaa,
ਗੰਗਾ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਬੇਣੀ ਸੰਗਮੁ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
gangā sāgar bēnī sangam athasath ank samāī hē .9.
Ganga Saagar where the Ganges empties into the ocean, Trivaynee where the three rivers come together, and the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage, are all merged in the Lord's Being. ||9||
ਆਪੇ ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
āpē sidh sādhik vīchārī .
He Himself is the Siddha, the seeker, in meditative contemplation.
ਆਪੇ ਰਾਜਨੁ ਪੰਚਾ ਕਾਰੀ ॥
āpē rājan panchā kārī .
He Himself is the King and the Council.
ਤਖਤਿ ਬਹੈ ਅਦਲੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਭੇਦੁ ਭਉ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
takhat bahai adalī prabh āpē bharam bhēd bhau jāī hē .10.
God Himself, the wise Judge, sits on the throne; He takes away doubt, duality and fear. ||10||
ਆਪੇ ਕਾਜੀ ਆਪੇ ਮੁਲਾ ॥
āpē kājī āpē mulā .
He Himself is the Qazi; He Himself is the Mullah.
ਆਪਿ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਨ ਕਬਹੂ ਭੁਲਾ ॥
āp abhul n kabahū bhulā .
He Himself is infallible; He never makes mistakes.
ਆਪੇ ਮਿਹਰ ਦਇਆਪਤਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਕੋ ਬੈਰਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
āpē mihar daiāpat dātā nā kisai kō bairāī hē .11.
He Himself is the Giver of Grace, compassion and honor; He is no one's enemy. ||11||
ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
jis bakhasē tis dē vadiāī .
Whoever He forgives, He blesses with glorious greatness.
ਸਭਸੈ ਦਾਤਾ ਤਿਲੁ ਨ ਤਮਾਈ ॥
sabhasai dātā til n tamāī .
He is the Giver of all; He does not have even an iota of greed.
ਭਰਪੁਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਸਭ ਠਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
bharapur dhār rahiā nihakēval gupat pragat sabh thāī hē .12.
The Immaculate Lord is all pervading, permeating everywhere, both hidden and manifest. ||12||
ਕਿਆ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੈ ॥
kiā sālāhī agam apārai .
How can I praise the inaccessible, infinite Lord?
ਸਾਚੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰ ਮੁਰਾਰੈ ॥
sāchē sirajanahār murārai .
The True Creator Lord is the Enemy of ego.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਮੇਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
jis nō nadar karē tis mēlē mēl milai mēlāī hē .13.
He unites those whom He blesses with His Grace; uniting them in His Union, they are united. ||13||
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸੁ ਦੁਆਰੈ ॥
brahamā bisan mahēs duārai .
Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva stand at His Door;
ਊਭੇ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰੈ ॥
ūbhē sēvah alakh apārai .
they serve the unseen, infinite Lord.
ਹੋਰ ਕੇਤੀ ਦਰਿ ਦੀਸੈ ਬਿਲਲਾਦੀ ਮੈ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਕਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
hōr kētī dar dīsai bilalādī mai ganat n āvai kāī hē .14.
Millions of others can be seen crying at His door; I cannot even estimate their numbers. ||14||
ਸਾਚੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਾਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
sāchī kīrat sāchī bānī .
True is the Kirtan of His Praise, and True is the Word of His Bani.
ਹੋਰ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ ॥
hōr n dīsai bēd purānī .
I can see no other in the Vedas and the Puraanas.
ਪੂੰਜੀ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਮੈ ਧਰ ਹੋਰ ਨ ਕਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
pūnjī sāch sachē gun gāvā mai dhar hōr n kāī hē .15.
Truth is my capital; I sing the Glorious Praises of the True Lord. I have no other support at all. ||15||
ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਸੀ ॥
jug jug sāchā hai bhī hōsī .
In each and every age, the True Lord is, and shall always be.
ਕਉਣੁ ਨ ਮੂਆ ਕਉਣੁ ਨ ਮਰਸੀ ॥
kaun n mūā kaun n marasī .
Who has not died? Who shall not die?
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Maaroo, First Mehl:
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਦਰਿ ਦੇਖਹੁ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੨॥
nānak nīch kahai bēnantī dar dēkhah liv lāī hē .16.2.
Nanak the lowly offers this prayer; see Him within your own self, and lovingly focus on the Lord. ||16||2||
ਆਪੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਧਉਲੁ ਅਕਾਸੰ ॥
āpē dharatī dhaul akāsan .
He Himself is the earth, the mythical bull which supports it and the Akaashic ethers.
ਆਪੇ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਗਾਸੰ ॥
āpē sāchē gun paragāsan .
The True Lord Himself reveals His Glorious Virtues.
ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
jatī satī santōkhī āpē āpē kār kamāī hē .1.
He Himself is celibate, chaste and contented; He Himself is the Doer of deeds. ||1||
ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੋ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
jis karanā sō kar kar vēkhai .
He who created the creation, beholds what He has created.
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਲੇਖੈ ॥
kōi n mētai sāchē lēkhai .
No one can erase the Inscription of the True Lord.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ਆਪੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
āpē karē karāē āpē āpē dē vadiāī hē .2.
He Himself is the Doer, the Cause of causes; He Himself is the One who bestows glorious greatness. ||2||
ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਚੰਚਲ ਚਿਤੁ ਚਾਲਹਿ ॥
panch chōr chanchal chit chālah .
The five thieves cause the fickle consciousness to waver.
ਪਰ ਘਰ ਜੋਹਹਿ ਘਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਲਹਿ ॥
par ghar jōhah ghar nahī bhālah .
It looks into the homes of others, but does not search its own home.
ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰੁ ਢਹੈ ਢਹਿ ਢੇਰੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਪਤਿ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
kāiā nagar dhahai dhah dhērī bin sabadai pat jāī hē .3.
The body-village crumbles into dust; without the Word of the Shabad, one's honor is lost. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥
gur tē būjhai tribhavan sūjhai .
One who realizes the Lord through the Guru, comprehends the three worlds.
ਮਨਸਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਨੈ ਸਿਉ ਲੂਝੈ ॥
manasā mār manai siu lūjhai .
He subdues his desires, and struggles with his mind.
ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਤੁਧ ਹੀ ਜੇਹੇ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਬਾਲ ਸਖਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
jō tudh sēvah sē tudh hī jēhē nirabhau bāl sakhāī hē .4.
Those who serve You, become just like You; O Fearless Lord, You are their best friend from infancy. ||4||
ਆਪੇ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਮਛੁ ਪਇਆਲਾ ॥
āpē surag mash paiālā .
You Yourself are the heavenly realms, this world and the nether regions of the underworld.
ਆਪੇ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਰੂਪੀ ਬਾਲਾ ॥
āpē jōt sarūpī bālā .
You Yourself are the embodiment of light, forever young.
ਜਟਾ ਬਿਕਟ ਬਿਕਰਾਲ ਸਰੂਪੀ ਰੂਪੁ ਨ ਰੇਖਿਆ ਕਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
jatā bikat bikarāl sarūpī rūp n rēkhiā kāī hē .5.
With matted hair, and a horrible, dreadful form, still, You have no form or feature. ||5||
ਬੇਦ ਕਤੇਬੀ ਭੇਦੁ ਨ ਜਾਤਾ ॥
bēd katēbī bhēd n jātā .
The Vedas and the Bible do not know the mystery of God.
ਨਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਾ ॥
nā tis māt pitā sut bhrātā .
He has no mother, father, child or brother.
ਸਗਲੇ ਸੈਲ ਉਪਾਇ ਸਮਾਏ ਅਲਖੁ ਨ ਲਖਣਾ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
sagalē sail upāi samāē alakh n lakhanā jāī hē .6.
He created all the mountains, and levels them again; the Unseen Lord cannot be seen. ||6||
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਕੀ ਮੀਤ ਘਨੇਰੇ ॥
kar kar thākī mīt ghanērē .
I have grown weary of making so many friends.
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਾਟੈ ਅਵਗੁਣ ਮੇਰੇ ॥
kōi n kātai avagun mērē .
No one can rid me of my sins and mistakes.
ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਨਾਥੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਇ ਮਿਲੈ ਭਉ ਜਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
sur nar nāth sāhib sabhanā sir bhāi milai bhau jāī hē .7.
God is the Supreme Lord and Master of all the angels and mortal beings; blessed with His Love, their fear is dispelled. ||7||
ਭੂਲੇ ਚੂਕੇ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
bhūlē chūkē mārag pāvah .
He puts back on the Path those who have wandered and strayed.
ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ਤੂਹੈ ਸਮਝਾਵਹਿ ॥
āp bhulāi tūhai samajhāvah .
You Yourself make them stray, and You teach them again.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਮੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੀਸੈ ਨਾਵਹੁ ਗਤਿ ਮਿਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
bin nāvai mai avar n dīsai nāvah gat mit pāī hē .8.
I cannot see anything except the Name. Through the Name comes salvation and merit. ||8||
