ਦੋਜਕਿ ਪਾਏ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੈ ਬਾਣੀਆ ॥੨॥
dōjak pāē sirajanahārai lēkhā mangai bānīā .2.
They are consigned to hell by the Creator Lord, and the Accountant calls them to give their account. ||2||
ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਭਈਆ ਬੇਬਾ ॥
sang n kōī bhaīā bēbā .
No brothers or sisters can go with them.
ਮਾਲੁ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਵਞੇਸਾ ॥
māl jōban dhan shōd vañēsā .
Leaving behind their property, youth and wealth, they march off.
ਕਰਣ ਕਰੀਮ ਨ ਜਾਤੋ ਕਰਤਾ ਤਿਲ ਪੀੜੇ ਜਿਉ ਘਾਣੀਆ ॥੩॥
karan karīm n jātō karatā til pīrē jiu ghānīā .3.
They do not know the kind and compassionate Lord; they shall be crushed like sesame seeds in the oil-press. ||3||
ਖੁਸਿ ਖੁਸਿ ਲੈਦਾ ਵਸਤੁ ਪਰਾਈ ॥
khus khus laidā vasat parāī .
You happily, cheerfully steal the possessions of others,
ਵੇਖੈ ਸੁਣੇ ਤੇਰੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਖੁਦਾਈ ॥
vēkhai sunē tērai nāl khudāī .
but the Lord God is with you, watching and listening.
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਲਬਿ ਪਇਆ ਖਾਤ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਅਗਲੀ ਗਲ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਆ ॥੪॥
dunīā lab paiā khāt andar agalī gal n jānīā .4.
Through worldly greed, you have fallen into the pit; you know nothing of the future. ||4||
ਜਮਿ ਜਮਿ ਮਰੈ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ॥
jam jam marai marai phir janmai .
You shall be born and born again, and die and die again, only to be reincarnated again.
ਬਹੁਤੁ ਸਜਾਇ ਪਇਆ ਦੇਸਿ ਲੰਮੈ ॥
bahut sajāi paiā dēs lanmai .
You shall suffer terrible punishment, on your way to the land beyond.
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤਾ ਤਿਸੈ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ਅੰਧਾ ਤਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਹੈ ਪਰਾਣੀਆ ॥੫॥
jin kītā tisai n jānī andhā tā dukh sahai parānīā .5.
The mortal does not know the One who created him; he is blind, and so he shall suffer. ||5||
ਖਾਲਕ ਥਾਵਹੁ ਭੁਲਾ ਮੁਠਾ ॥
khālak thāvah bhulā muthā .
Forgetting the Creator Lord, he is ruined.
ਦੁਨੀਆ ਖੇਲੁ ਬੁਰਾ ਰੁਠ ਤੁਠਾ ॥
dunīā khēl burā ruth tuthā .
The drama of the world is bad; it brings sadness and then happiness.
ਸਿਦਕੁ ਸਬੂਰੀ ਸੰਤੁ ਨ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਵਤੈ ਆਪਣ ਭਾਣੀਆ ॥੬॥
sidak sabūrī sant n miliō vatai āpan bhānīā .6.
One who does not meet the Saint does not have faith or contentment; he wanders just as he pleases. ||6||
ਮਉਲਾ ਖੇਲ ਕਰੇ ਸਭਿ ਆਪੇ ॥ ਇਕਿ ਕਢੇ ਇਕਿ ਲਹਰਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥
maulā khēl karē sabh āpē . ik kadhē ik lahar viāpē .
The Lord Himself stages all this drama. Some, he lifts up, and some he throws into the waves.
ਜਿਉ ਨਚਾਏ ਤਿਉ ਤਿਉ ਨਚਨਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਿਰਤ ਵਿਹਾਣੀਆ ॥੭॥
jiu nachāē tiu tiu nachan sir sir kirat vihānīā .7.
As He makes them dance, so do they dance. Everyone lives their lives according to their past actions. ||7||
ਮਿਹਰ ਕਰੇ ਤਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥
mihar karē tā khasam dhiāī .
When the Lord and Master grants His Grace, then we meditate on Him.
ਸੰਤਾ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਰਕਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
santā sangat narak n pāī .
In the Society of the Saints, one is not consigned to hell.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਣ ਗੀਤਾ ਨਿਤ ਵਖਾਣੀਆ ॥੮॥੨॥੮॥੧੨॥੨੦॥
anmrit nām dān nānak kau gun gītā nit vakhānīā .8.2.8.12.20.
Please bless Nanak with the gift of the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord; he continually sings the songs of Your Glories. ||8||2||8||12||20||
ਮਾਰੂ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Maaroo, Fifth Mehl:
ਬਿਰਖੈ ਹੇਠਿ ਸਭਿ ਜੰਤ ਇਕਠੇ ॥
birakhai hēth sabh jant ikathē .
Beneath the tree, all beings have gathered.
ਇਕਿ ਤਤੇ ਇਕਿ ਬੋਲਨਿ ਮਿਠੇ ॥
ik tatē ik bōlan mithē .
Some are hot-headed, and some speak very sweetly.
ਅਸਤੁ ਉਦੋਤੁ ਭਇਆ ਉਠਿ ਚਲੇ ਜਿਉ ਜਿਉ ਅਉਧ ਵਿਹਾਣੀਆ ॥੧॥
asat udōt bhaiā uth chalē jiu jiu audh vihānīā .1.
Sunset has come, and they rise up and depart; their days have run their course and expired. ||1||
ਪਾਪ ਕਰੇਦੜ ਸਰਪਰ ਮੁਠੇ ॥
pāp karēdar sarapar muthē .
Those who committed sins are sure to be ruined.
ਅਜਰਾਈਲਿ ਫੜੇ ਫੜਿ ਕੁਠੇ ॥
ajarāīl pharē phar kuthē .
Azraa-eel, the Angel of Death, seizes and tortures them.
