Pauree:
ਸਭੇ ਦੁਖ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਜਾਂ ਤੁਧਹੁ ਭੁਲੀਐ ॥
sabhē dukh santāp jānh tudhah bhulīai .
When I forget You, I endure all pains and afflictions.
ਜੇ ਕੀਚਨਿ ਲਖ ਉਪਾਵ ਤਾਂ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਘੁਲੀਐ ॥
jē kīchan lakh upāv tānh kahī n ghulīai .
Making thousands of efforts, they are still not eliminated.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਉ ਸੁ ਨਿਰਧਨੁ ਕਾਂਢੀਐ ॥
jis nō visarai nāu s niradhan kānhdhīai .
One who forgets the Name, is known as a poor person.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਨਾਉ ਸੋ ਜੋਨੀ ਹਾਂਢੀਐ ॥
jis nō visarai nāu sō jōnī hānhdhīai .
One who forgets the Name, wanders in reincarnation.
ਜਿਸੁ ਖਸਮੁ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਮੁ ਡੰਡੁ ਦੇ ॥
jis khasam n āvai chit tis jam dand dē .
One who does not remember his Lord and Master, is punished by the Messenger of Death.
ਜਿਸੁ ਖਸਮੁ ਨ ਆਵੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਰੋਗੀ ਸੇ ਗਣੇ ॥
jis khasam n āvī chit rōgī sē ganē .
One who does not remember his Lord and Master, is judged to be a sick person.
ਜਿਸੁ ਖਸਮੁ ਨ ਆਵੀ ਚਿਤਿ ਸੁ ਖਰੋ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀਆ ॥
jis khasam n āvī chit s kharō ahankārīā .
One who does not remember his Lord and Master, is egotistical and proud.
ਸੋਈ ਦੁਹੇਲਾ ਜਗਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਨਾਉ ਵਿਸਾਰੀਆ ॥੧੪॥
sōī duhēlā jag jin nāu visārīā .14.
One who forgets the Name is miserable in this world. ||14||
ਸਲੋਕ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਮੈ ਹਭ ਵਞਾਈ ਛੋੜਿਆ ਹਭੁ ਕਿਝੁ ਤਿਆਗੀ ॥
usatat nindā nānak jī mai habh vañāī shōriā habh kijh tiāgī .
I have totally discarded praise and slander, O Nanak; I have forsaken and abandoned everything.
ਹਭੇ ਸਾਕ ਕੂੜਾਵੇ ਡਿਠੇ ਤਉ ਪਲੈ ਤੈਡੈ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੧॥
habhē sāk kūrāvē dithē tau palai taidai lāgī .1.
I have seen that all relationships are false, and so I have grasped hold of the hem of Your robe, Lord. ||1||

mah 5 .
Fifth Mehl:
ਫਿਰਦੀ ਫਿਰਦੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀਉ ਹਉ ਫਾਵੀ ਥੀਈ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦਿਸਾਵਰ ਪੰਧਾ ॥
phiradī phiradī nānak jīu hau phāvī thīī bahut disāvar pandhā .
I wandered and wandered and went crazy, O Nanak, in countless foreign lands and pathways.
ਤਾ ਹਉ ਸੁਖਿ ਸੁਖਾਲੀ ਸੁਤੀ ਜਾ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਮੈ ਲਧਾ ॥੨॥
tā hau sukh sukhālī sutī jā gur mil sajan mai ladhā .2.
But then, I slept in peace and comfort, when I met the Guru, and found my Friend. ||2||
