ਵਡਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਤਾਰਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਜਗਤੁ ॥
vadā sāhib gurū milāiā jin tāriā sagal jagat .
The Guru led me to meet the greatest Lord and Master; He saved the whole world.
ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਇਛਾ ਪੂਰੀਆ ਪਾਇਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਸੰਜੋਗ ॥
man kīā ishā pūrīā pāiā dhur sanjōg .
The desires of the mind are fulfilled; I have attained my pre-destined Union with God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਭੋਗੇ ਭੋਗ ॥੧॥
nānak pāiā sach nām sad hī bhōgē bhōg .1.
Nanak has obtained the True Name; He enjoys the enjoyments forever. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:
ਮਨਮੁਖਾ ਕੇਰੀ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾ ਸਨਬੰਧੁ ॥
manamukhā kērī dōsatī māiā kā sanabandh .
Friendship with the self-willed manmukhs is an alliance with Maya.
ਵੇਖਦਿਆ ਹੀ ਭਜਿ ਜਾਨਿ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਪਾਇਨਿ ਬੰਧੁ ॥
vēkhadiā hī bhaj jān kadē n pāin bandh .
As we watch, they run away; they never stand firm.
ਜਿਚਰੁ ਪੈਨਨਿ ਖਾਵਨ੍ਹੇ ਤਿਚਰੁ ਰਖਨਿ ਗੰਢੁ ॥
jichar painan khāvanhē tichar rakhan gandh .
As long as they get food and clothing, they stick around.
ਜਿਤੁ ਦਿਨਿ ਕਿਛੁ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਤਿਤੁ ਦਿਨਿ ਬੋਲਨਿ ਗੰਧੁ ॥
jit din kish n hōvaī tit din bōlan gandh .
But on that day when they receive nothing, then they start to curse.
ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧੁ ॥
jī kī sār n jānanī manamukh agiānī andh .
The self-willed manmukhs are ignorant and blind; they do not know the secrets of the soul.
ਕੂੜਾ ਗੰਢੁ ਨ ਚਲਈ ਚਿਕੜਿ ਪਥਰ ਬੰਧੁ ॥
kūrā gandh n chalaī chikar pathar bandh .
The false bond does not last; it is like stones joined with mud.
ਅੰਧੇ ਆਪੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਫਕੜੁ ਪਿਟਨਿ ਧੰਧੁ ॥
andhē āp n jānanī phakar pitan dhandh .
The blind do not understand themselves; they are engrossed in false worldly entanglements.
ਝੂਠੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਪਟਾਇਆ ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਿਹੰਧੁ ॥
jhūthai mōh lapatāiā hau hau karat bihandh .
Entangled in false attachments, they pass their lives in egotism and self-conceit.
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਧੁਰਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਰੇਇ ॥
kripā karē jis āpanī dhur pūrā karam karēi .
But that being, whom the Lord has blessed with His Mercy from the very beginning, does perfect deeds, and accumulates good karma.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਉਬਰੇ ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ॥੨॥
jan nānak sē jan ubarē jō satigur saran parē .2.
O servant Nanak, those humble beings alone are saved, who enter the Sanctuary of the True Guru. ||2||

ਜੋ ਰਤੇ ਦੀਦਾਰ ਸੇਈ ਸਚੁ ਹਾਕੁ ॥
jō ratē dīdār sēī sach hāk .
Those who are imbued with the Lord's Vision, speak the Truth.
ਜਿਨੀ ਜਾਤਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਕਿਉ ਲਭੈ ਤਿਨਾ ਖਾਕੁ ॥
jinī jātā khasam kiu labhai tinā khāk .
How can I obtain the dust of those who realize their Lord and Master?
ਮਨੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਵੇਕਾਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਕੁ ॥
man mailā vēkār hōvai sang pāk .
The mind, stained by corruption, becomes pure by associating with them.
ਦਿਸੈ ਸਚਾ ਮਹਲੁ ਖੁਲੈ ਭਰਮ ਤਾਕੁ ॥
disai sachā mahal khulai bharam tāk .
One sees the Mansion of the Lord's Presence, when the door of doubt is opened.
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਦਿਖਾਲੇ ਮਹਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਧਾਕੁ ॥
jisah dikhālē mahal tis n milai dhāk .
That one, unto whom the Mansion of the Lord's Presence is revealed, is never pushed or shoved.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਹੋਇ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ਬਿੰਦਕ ਨਦਰਿ ਝਾਕੁ ॥
man tan hōi nihāl bindak nadar jhāk .
My mind and body are enraptured, when the Lord blesses me, even for an instant, with His Glance of Grace.
ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਲਾਗੁ ॥
nau nidh nām nidhān gur kai sabad lāg .
The nine treasures, and the treasure of the Naam are obtained by commitment to the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਤਿਸੈ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੰਤ ਖਾਕੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਜਿਸੈ ਭਾਗੁ ॥੫॥
tisai milai sant khāk masatak jisai bhāg .5.
He alone is blessed with the dust of the feet of the Saints, upon whose forehead such pre-ordained desiny is inscribed. ||5||

Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਦੋਸਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
har ikasai nāl mai dōsatī har ikasai nāl mai rang .
My friendship is with the One Lord alone; I am in love with the One Lord alone.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਜਣੋ ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
har ikō mērā sajanō har ikasai nāl mai sang .
The Lord is my only friend; my companionship is with the One Lord alone.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਨਾਲਿ ਮੈ ਗੋਸਟੇ ਮੁਹੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਕਰੈ ਨ ਭੰਗੁ ॥
har ikasai nāl mai gōsatē muh mailā karai n bhang .
My conversation is with the One Lord alone; He never frowns, or turns His face away.
ਜਾਣੈ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਮੋੜੈ ਰੰਗੁ ॥
jānai birathā jī kī kadē n mōrai rang .
He alone knows the state of my soul; He never ignores my love.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਸਲਤੀ ਭੰਨਣ ਘੜਨ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
har ikō mērā masalatī bhannan gharan samarath .
He is my only counselor, all-powerful to destroy and create.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਦਾਤਿਆ ਜਗ ਹਥੁ ॥
har ikō mērā dātār hai sir dātiā jag hath .
The Lord is my only Giver. He places His hand upon the heads of the generous in the world.
ਹਰਿ ਇਕਸੈ ਦੀ ਮੈ ਟੇਕ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਸਿਰਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਸਮਰਥੁ ॥
har ikasai dī mai tēk hai jō sir sabhanā samarath .
I take the Support of the One Lord alone; He is all-powerful, over the heads of all.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੰਤੁ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧਰਿ ਕੈ ਹਥੁ ॥
satigur sant milāiā masatak dhar kai hath .
The Saint, the True Guru, has united me with the Lord. He placed His hand on my forehead.
