Shalok, Fifth Mehl:
ਸੁਣਿ ਸਜਣ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਦਿਖਾਲਿ ॥
sun sajan prītam mēriā mai satigur dēh dikhāl .
Listen, O my beloved friend: please show me the True Guru.
ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਵਾ ਮਨੁ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਿਤ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਖਾ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
hau tis dēvā man āpanā nit hiradai rakhā samāl .
I dedicate my mind to Him; I keep Him continually enshrined within my heart.
ਇਕਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
ikas satigur bāharā dhrig jīvan sansār .
Without the One and Only True Guru, life in this world is cursed.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਿਨਾ ਮਿਲਾਇਓਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਵਰਤੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
jan nānak satigur tinā milāiōn jin sad hī varatai nāl .1.
O servant Nanak, they alone meet the True Guru, with whom He constantly abides. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:
ਮੇਰੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਚਾ ਮਿਲਣ ਕੀ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੋਹਿ ॥
mērai antar lōchā milan kī kiu pāvā prabh tōh .
Deep within me is the longing to meet You; how can I find You, God?
ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਸਜਣੁ ਲੋੜਿ ਲਹੁ ਜੋ ਮੇਲੇ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮੋਹਿ ॥
kōī aisā sajan lōr lah jō mēlē prītam mōh .
I will search for someone, some friend, who will unite me with my Beloved.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਮੇਲਾਇਆ ਜਤ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਤ ਸੋਇ ॥
gur pūrai mēlāiā jat dēkhā tat sōi .
The Perfect Guru has united me with Him; wherever I look, there He is.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥
jan nānak sō prabh sēviā tis jēvad avar n kōi .2.
Servant Nanak serves that God; there is no other as great as He is. ||2||

Pauree:
ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ਦਾਤਾਰੁ ਕਿਤੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀਐ ॥
dēvanahār dātār kit mukh sālāhīai .
He is the Great Giver, the Generous Lord; with what mouth can I praise Him?
ਜਿਸੁ ਰਖੈ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸਮਾਹੀਐ ॥
jis rakhai kirapā dhār rijak samāhīai .
In His Mercy, He protects, preserves and sustains us.
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸ ਹੀ ਵਸਿ ਸਭਨਾ ਇਕ ਧਰ ॥
kōi n kis hī vas sabhanā ik dhar .
No one is under anyone else's control; He is the One Support of all.
ਪਾਲੇ ਬਾਲਕ ਵਾਗਿ ਦੇ ਕੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰ ॥
pālē bālak vāg dē kai āp kar .
He cherishes all as His children, and reaches out with His hand.
ਕਰਦਾ ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਣੀਐ ॥
karadā anad binōd kishū n jānīai .
He stages His joyous plays, which no one understands at all.
ਸਰਬ ਧਾਰ ਸਮਰਥ ਹਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੀਐ ॥
sarab dhār samarath hau tis kurabānīai .
The all-powerful Lord gives His Support to all; I am a sacrifice to Him.
ਗਾਈਐ ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਨੰਤੁ ਗਾਵਣ ਜੋਗਿਆ ॥
gāīai rāt dinant gāvan jōgiā .
Night and day, sing the Praises of the One who is worthy of being praised.
ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਹਿ ਤਿਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਭੋਗਿਆ ॥੨॥
jō gur kī pairī pāh tinī har ras bhōgiā .2.
Those who fall at the Guru's Feet, enjoy the sublime essence of the Lord. ||2||
