ਮਲੁ ਕੂੜੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਉਤਾਰੀਅਨੁ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੋਆ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ॥
mal kūrī nām utārīan jap nām hōā sachiār .
The Naam washes off the filth of falsehood; chanting the Naam, one becomes truthful.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸ ਦੇ ਏਹਿ ਚਲਤ ਹਹਿ ਸੋ ਜੀਵਉ ਦੇਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥
jan nānak jis dē ēh chalat hah sō jīvau dēvanahār .2.
O servant Nanak, wondrous are the plays of the Lord, the Giver of life. ||2||

ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਹਿ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ॥
tudh jēvad dātā nāh kis ākh sunāīai .
You are the Great Giver; no other is as great as You. Unto whom should I speak and talk?
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਇ ਜਿਥਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
gur parasādī pāi jithah haumai jāīai .
By Guru's Grace, I find You; You eradicate egotism from within.
ਰਸ ਕਸ ਸਾਦਾ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਸਚੀ ਵਡਿਆਈਐ ॥
ras kas sādā bāharā sachī vadiāīai .
You are beyond sweet and salty flavors; True is Your glorious greatness.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਇ ਆਪਿ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਈਐ ॥
jis nō bakhasē tis dēi āp laē milāīai .
You bless those whom You forgive, and unite them with Yourself.
ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਰਖਿਓਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਸੈ ਪਿਆਈ ॥੯॥
ghat antar anmrit rakhiōn guramukh kisai piāī .9.
You have placed the Ambrosial Nectar deep within the heart; the Gurmukh drinks it in. ||9||

Shalok, Third Mehl:
ਸਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਤੂ ਸਭੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਚੁ ॥
sachā nām dhiāi tū sabhō varatai sach .
Meditate on the True Name; the True Lord is all-pervading.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਜੋ ਬੁਝੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ਸਚੁ ॥
nānak hukamai jō bujhai sō phal pāē sach .
O Nanak, one who realizes the Hukam of the Lord's Command, obtains the fruit of Truth.
ਕਥਨੀ ਬਦਨੀ ਕਰਤਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਸਚੁ ॥
kathanī badanī karatā phirai hukam n būjhai sach .
One who merely mouths the words, does not understand the Hukam of the True Lord's Command.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨੇ ਸੋ ਭਗਤੁ ਹੋਇ ਵਿਣੁ ਮੰਨੇ ਕਚੁ ਨਿਕਚੁ ॥੧॥
nānak har kā bhānā mannē sō bhagat hōi vin mannē kach nikach .1.
O Nanak, one who accepts the Will of the Lord is His devotee. Without accepting it, he is the falsest of the false. ||1||

Third Mehl:
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੋਲਿ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਓਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥
manamukh bōl n jānanī ōnā andar kām krōdh ahankār .
The self-willed manmukhs do not know what they are saying. They are filled with sexual desire, anger and egotism.
ਓਇ ਥਾਉ ਕੁਥਾਉ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਉਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਵਿਕਾਰੁ ॥
ōi thāu kuthāu n jānanī un antar lōbh vikār .
They do not understand right places and wrong places; they are filled with greed and corruption.
ਓਇ ਆਪਣੈ ਸੁਆਇ ਆਇ ਬਹਿ ਗਲਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਓਨਾ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਮੁ ਜੰਦਾਰੁ ॥
ōi āpanai suāi āi bah galā karah ōnā mārē jam jandār .
They come, and sit and talk for their own purposes. The Messenger of Death strikes them down.
ਅਗੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਲੇਖੈ ਮੰਗਿਐ ਮਾਰਿ ਖੁਆਰੁ ਕੀਚਹਿ ਕੂੜਿਆਰ ॥
agai daragah lēkhai mangiai mār khuār kīchah kūriār .
Hereafter, they are called to account in the Court of the Lord; the false ones are struck down and humiliated.
ਏਹ ਕੂੜੈ ਕੀ ਮਲੁ ਕਿਉ ਉਤਰੈ ਕੋਈ ਕਢਹੁ ਇਹੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
ēh kūrai kī mal kiu utarai kōī kadhah ih vīchār .
How can this filth of falsehood be washed off? Can anyone think about this, and find the way?
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਏ ਸਭਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਟਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
satigur milai tā nām dirāē sabh kilavikh katanahār .
If one meets with the True Guru, He implants the Naam, the Name of the Lord within; all his sins are destroyed.
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੇ ਨਾਮੋ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਕਰਹੁ ਸਭਿ ਨਮਸਕਾਰੁ ॥
nām japē nāmō ārādhē tis jan kau karah sabh namasakār .
Let all bow in humility to that humble being who chants the Naam, and worships the Naam in adoration.
