ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੁਏ ਅਪਣਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਖੋਇ ॥
manamukh muē apanā janam khōi .
The self-willed manmukhs waste away their lives, and die.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਏ ॥
satigur sēvē bharam chukāē .
Serving the True Guru, doubt is driven away.
ਘਰ ਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੯॥
ghar hī andar sach mahal pāē .9.
Deep within the home of the heart, one finds the Mansion of the True Lord's Presence. ||9||
ਆਪੇ ਪੂਰਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
āpē pūrā karē s hōi .
Whatever the Perfect Lord does, that alone happens.
ਏਹਿ ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਦੂਜਾ ਦੋਇ ॥
ēh thitī vār dūjā dōi .
Concern with these omens and days leads only to duality.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬਾਝਹੁ ਅੰਧੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
satigur bājhah andh gubār .
Without the True Guru, there is only pitch darkness.
ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
bilāval mahalā 3 .
Bilaaval, Third Mehl:
ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥
thitī vār sēvah mugadh gavār .
Only idiots and fools worry about these omens and days.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
nānak guramukh būjhai sōjhī pāi .
O Nanak, the Gurmukh obtains understanding and realization;
ਇਕਤੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧੦॥੨॥
ikat nām sadā rahiā samāi .10.2.
he remains forever merged in the Name of the One Lord. ||10||2||
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਾਜੇ ॥
ād purakh āpē srisat sājē .
The Primal Lord Himself formed the Universe.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਪਾਜੇ ॥
jī jant māiā mōh pājē .
The beings and creatures are engrossed in emotional attachment to Maya.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਪਰਪੰਚਿ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
dūjai bhāi parapanch lāgē .
In the love of duality, they are attached to the illusory material world.
ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥
āvah jāvah marah abhāgē .
The unfortunate ones die, and continue to come and go.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਭੇਟਿਐ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
satigur bhētiai sōjhī pāi .
Meeting with the True Guru, understanding is obtained.
ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਚੂਕੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
parapanch chūkai sach samāi .1.
Then, the illusion of the material world is shattered, and one merges in Truth. ||1||
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ॥
jā kai masatak likhiā lēkh .
One who has such pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon his forehead
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਏਕੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tā kai man vasiā prabh ēk .1. rahāu .
- the One God abides within his mind. ||1||Pause||
ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਇ ਆਪੇ ਸਭੁ ਵੇਖੈ ॥
srisat upāi āpē sabh vēkhai .
He created the Universe, and He Himself beholds all.
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਤੇਰੈ ਲੇਖੈ ॥
kōi n mētai tērai lēkhai .
No one can erase Your record, Lord.
ਸਿਧ ਸਾਧਿਕ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਏ ॥
sidh sādhik jē kō kahai kahāē .
If someone calls himself a Siddha or a seeker,
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
bharamē bhūlā āvai jāē .
he is deluded by doubt, and will continue coming and going.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
satigur sēvai sō jan būjhai .
That humble being alone understands, who serves the True Guru.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਾ ਦਰੁ ਸੂਝੈ ॥੨॥
haumai mārē tā dar sūjhai .2.
Conquering his ego, he finds the Lord's Door. ||2||
ਏਕਸੁ ਤੇ ਸਭੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੂਆ ॥
ēkas tē sabh dūjā hūā .
From the One Lord, all others were formed.
ਏਕੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਬੀਆ ॥
ēkō varatai avar n bīā .
The One Lord is pervading everywhere; there is no other at all.
ਦੂਜੇ ਤੇ ਜੇ ਏਕੋ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
dūjē tē jē ēkō jānai .
Renouncing duality, one comes to know the One Lord.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ॥
gur kai sabad har dar nīsānai .
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one knows the Lord's Door, and His Banner.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਤਾ ਏਕੋ ਪਾਏ ॥
satigur bhētē tā ēkō pāē .
Meeting the True Guru, one finds the One Lord.
ਵਿਚਹੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥੩॥
vichah dūjā thāk rahāē .3.
Duality is subdued within. ||3||
ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਡਾਢਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
jis dā sāhib dādhā hōi .
One who belongs to the All-powerful Lord and Master
ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਮਾਰਿ ਨ ਸਾਕੈ ਕੋਇ ॥
tis nō mār n sākai kōi .
- no one can destroy Him.
ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਰਹੈ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥
sāhib kī sēvak rahai saranāī .
The Lord's servant remains under His protection;
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
āpē bakhasē dē vadiāī .
The Lord Himself forgives him, and blesses him with glorious greatness.
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
tis tē ūpar nāhī kōi .
There is none higher than Him.
ਕਉਣੁ ਡਰੈ ਡਰੁ ਕਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥
kaun darai dar kis kā hōi .4.
Why should he be afraid? What should he ever fear? ||4||
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਰੀਰ ॥
guramatī sānht vasai sarīr .
Through the Guru's Teachings, peace and tranquility abide within the body.
ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨ੍ਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਪੀਰ ॥
sabad chīnh phir lagai n pīr .
Remember the Word of the Shabad, and you shall never suffer pain.
ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
āvai n jāi nā dukh pāē .
You shall not have to come or go, or suffer in sorrow.
ਨਾਮੇ ਰਾਤੇ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
nāmē rātē sahaj samāē .
Imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, you shall merge in celestial peace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖੈ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥
nānak guramukh vēkhai hadūr .
O Nanak, the Gurmukh beholds Him ever-present, close at hand.
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਦ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੫॥
mērā prabh sad rahiā bharapūr .5.
My God is always fully pervading everywhere. ||5||
ਇਕਿ ਸੇਵਕ ਇਕਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਏ ॥
ik sēvak ik bharam bhulāē .
Some are selfless servants, while others wander, deluded by doubt.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
āpē karē har āp karāē .
The Lord Himself does, and causes everything to be done.
ਏਕੋ ਵਰਤੈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
ēkō varatai avar n kōi .
The One Lord is all-pervading; there is no other at all.
ਮਨਿ ਰੋਸੁ ਕੀਜੈ ਜੇ ਦੂਜਾ ਹੋਇ ॥
man rōs kījai jē dūjā hōi .
The mortal might complain, if there were any other.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥
satigur sēvē karanī sārī .
Serve the True Guru; this is the most excellent action.
ਦਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
dar sāchai sāchē vīchārī .6.
In the Court of the True Lord, you shall be judged true. ||6||
ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਸਭਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਏ ॥
thitī vār sabh sabad suhāē .
All the lunar days, and the days of the week are beautiful, when one contemplates the Shabad.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
satigur sēvē tā phal pāē .
If one serves the True Guru, he obtains the fruits of his rewards.
ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਸਭਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
thitī vār sabh āvah jāh .
The omens and days all come and go.
ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥
gur sabad nihachal sadā sach samāh .
But the Word of the Guru's Shabad is eternal and unchanging. Through it, one merges in the True Lord.
ਥਿਤੀ ਵਾਰ ਤਾ ਜਾ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ॥
thitī vār tā jā sach rātē .
The days are auspicious, when one is imbued with Truth.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਭਰਮਹਿ ਕਾਚੇ ॥੭॥
bin nāvai sabh bharamah kāchē .7.
Without the Name, all the false ones wander deluded. ||7||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮਰਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਬਿਗਤੀ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
manamukh marah mar bigatī jāh .
The self-willed manmukhs die, and dead, they fall into the most evil state.
ਏਕੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਹਿ ॥
ēk n chētah dūjai lōbhāh .
They do not remember the One Lord; they are deluded by duality.
ਅਚੇਤ ਪਿੰਡੀ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ॥
achēt pindī agiān andhār .
The human body is unconscious, ignorant and blind.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਕਿਉ ਪਾਏ ਪਾਰੁ ॥
bin sabadai kiu pāē pār .
Without the Word of the Shabad, how can anyone cross over?
ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਉਪਾਵਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
āp upāē upāvanahār .
The Creator Himself creates.
ਆਪੇ ਕੀਤੋਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੮॥
āpē kītōn gur vīchār .8.
He Himself contemplates the Guru's Word. ||8||
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥
bahutē bhēkh karah bhēkhadhārī .
The religious fanatics wear all sorts of religious robes.
ਭਵਿ ਭਵਿ ਭਰਮਹਿ ਕਾਚੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥
bhav bhav bharamah kāchī sārī .
They roll around and wander around, like the false dice on the board.
ਐਥੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਆਗੈ ਹੋਇ ॥
aithai sukh n āgai hōi .
They find no peace, here or hereafter.
