ਬਿਲਾਵਲੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Bilaaval, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਿਰਤੁ ਹਸੈ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰੇ ਪਸੂਆ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
mirat hasai sir ūparē pasūā nahī būjhai .
Death hovers over his head, laughing, but the beast does not understand.
ਬਾਦ ਸਾਦ ਅਹੰਕਾਰ ਮਹਿ ਮਰਣਾ ਨਹੀ ਸੂਝੈ ॥੧॥
bād sād ahankār mah maranā nahī sūjhai .1.
Entangled in conflict, pleasure and egotism, he does not even think of death. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹੁ ਆਪਨਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਫਿਰਹੁ ਅਭਾਗੇ ॥
satigur sēvah āpanā kāhē phirah abhāgē .
So serve your True Guru; why wander around miserable and unfortunate?
ਦੇਖਿ ਕਸੁੰਭਾ ਰੰਗੁਲਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਭੂਲਿ ਲਾਗੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dēkh kasunbhā rangulā kāhē bhūl lāgē .1. rahāu .
You gaze upon the transitory, beautiful safflower, but why do you get attached to it? ||1||Pause||
ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਪ ਦਰਬੁ ਕੀਆ ਵਰਤਣ ਕੈ ਤਾਈ ॥
kar kar pāp darab kīā varatan kai tāī .
You commit sins again and again, to gather wealth to spend.
ਮਾਟੀ ਸਿਉ ਮਾਟੀ ਰਲੀ ਨਾਗਾ ਉਠਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
mātī siu mātī ralī nāgā uth jāī .2.
But your dust shall mix with dust; you shall arise and depart naked. ||2||
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਕੀਐ ਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਕਰੈ ਤੇ ਬੈਰ ਬਿਰੋਧੀ ॥
jā kai kīai sram karai tē bair birōdhī .
Those for whom you work, will become your spiteful enemies.
ਅੰਤ ਕਾਲਿ ਭਜਿ ਜਾਹਿਗੇ ਕਾਹੇ ਜਲਹੁ ਕਰੋਧੀ ॥੩॥
ant kāl bhaj jāhigē kāhē jalah karōdhī .3.
In the end, they will run away from you; why do you burn for them in anger? ||3||
ਦਾਸ ਰੇਣੁ ਸੋਈ ਹੋਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਕਰਮਾ ॥
dās rēn sōī hōā jis masatak karamā .
He alone becomes the dust of the Lord's slaves, who has such good karma upon his forehead.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬੰਧਨ ਛੁਟੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੩੬॥
kah nānak bandhan shutē satigur kī saranā .4.6.36.
Says Nanak, he is released from bondage, in the Sanctuary of the True Guru. ||4||6||36||
