ਸੂਹੀ ॥

Soohee:
ਊਚੇ ਮੰਦਰ ਸਾਲ ਰਸੋਈ ॥
ūchē mandar sāl rasōī .
You may have lofty mansions, halls and kitchens.
ਏਕ ਘਰੀ ਫੁਨਿ ਰਹਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
ēk gharī phun rahan n hōī .1.
But you cannot stay in them, even for an instant, after death. ||1||
ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਐਸਾ ਜੈਸੇ ਘਾਸ ਕੀ ਟਾਟੀ ॥
ih tan aisā jaisē ghās kī tātī .
This body is like a house of straw.
ਜਲਿ ਗਇਓ ਘਾਸੁ ਰਲਿ ਗਇਓ ਮਾਟੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jal gaiō ghās ral gaiō mātī .1. rahāu .
When it is burnt, it mixes with dust. ||1||Pause||
ਭਾਈ ਬੰਧ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਹੇਰਾ ॥ ਓਇ ਭੀ ਲਾਗੇ ਕਾਢੁ ਸਵੇਰਾ ॥੨॥
bhāī bandh kutanb sahērā . ōi bhī lāgē kādh savērā .2.
Even relatives, family and friends begin to say, "Take his body out, immediately!"||2||
ਘਰ ਕੀ ਨਾਰਿ ਉਰਹਿ ਤਨ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
ghar kī nār urah tan lāgī .
And the wife of his house, who was so attached to his body and heart,
ਉਹ ਤਉ ਭੂਤੁ ਭੂਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਗੀ ॥੩॥
uh tau bhūt bhūt kar bhāgī .3.
runs away, crying out, "Ghost! Ghost!"||3||
ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਸਭੈ ਜਗੁ ਲੂਟਿਆ ॥
kah ravidās sabhai jag lūtiā .
Says Ravi Daas, the whole world has been plundered,
ਹਮ ਤਉ ਏਕ ਰਾਮੁ ਕਹਿ ਛੂਟਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥
ham tau ēk rām kah shūtiā .4.3.
but I have escaped, chanting the Name of the One Lord. ||4||3||
